Our membership (and golfers all around Beaufort) have been waiting for the club to reopen for a few years; this sneak peek, or sample of the sauce, is just that. It is a chance to get out there and enjoy the golf course at this early stage. With the weather conditions as they are and the applications that have been applied to the course, it will get better and better every day.

Our members will be enjoying the course tomorrow and Sunday, and then again next weekend. After that, we’ll start to increase the days that the course is open for play until we get to Memorial Day weekend, when we expect to host the Grand Opening for the golf course.

One of the rooms in our clubhouse is called the “Turn Room”. Here members can use the restroom while making their turn and also grab a beverage, snack or other light fare as they begin play on Hole 10. The Turn Room will be fully stocked while members are playing over the next two weekends and as we add days to the tee sheet, the Turn Room will also be a great source for refueling while playing golf. We’ll also be ramping up our offering at the Cabana bar and grille poolside over the next few weeks in preparation for the official announcement of the arrival of summer at Cat Island Club. Chef Lucas and Laura are working on the new menu for the Cabana and, eventually, the dining room experience at the clubhouse.

For those of you who have been watching and waiting over the past ten months, the wait is over. While I would love to invite you all to come and play during this soft opening period, all guests must be accompanied by a member. That said, just in case you don’t know a member to invite you to play, you’re still in luck. We do not have a waiting list for membership and you can still join the club before the next increase in the Initiation Fee.

Our club staff has a ‘devotion to promotion’ so you can expect to always find a game. We’ll have a standing Saturday morning game that our golf staff will organize along with a variety of other golf events, like an emergency nine on Wednesday evenings or nine and dine on Fridays where the ladies are invited into these fun formats. We’ll also have Ladies’ and Seniors’ Associations that will compete at our club and against others in the area. These are just some examples of the vision for our golf operations at Cat Island Club.

Social events will include everything from a Wine Club, where we’ll host special wine dinners and wine tastings, to a variety of functions designed for the entire family. The final element needed to open the clubhouse is our kitchen equipment. Once that arrives, we will celebrate the holidays with a wide variety of member events and add Sunday brunch to the docket. These items are top priority for the calendar soon after we fully open the clubhouse.

Our Cabana Bar is currently open from 4:00 until 7:00 on Thursday through Sunday, weather permitting. The Cabana Bar is a great place to dine alfresco, meet your friends for a cocktail poolside, or watch a game. Tomorrow night, Cat Island’s own Mark Turner will be performing at the Cabana Bar. Mark is an amazing talent who plays at the Cabana Bar when he’s in town.

Soon the pool will open and our Summer Camps for the youngsters will be in full swing. June 5-8 will be the first Summer Camp. You can enroll your children in the summer camp by emailing Laura Vasquez at Laura@catislandclub.com. The camps will include tennis, golf, swimming, arts and crafts, snacks and fun prizes along with many great memories. The cost of the camp is $295 per members’ child and $335 per guests’ child. There is a 10% discount for additional siblings registered. Space is limited, so be sure to register soon! The second summer camp will be on August 7-10. Be on the lookout for more details!

So, friends, I need to spend some time on the practice range this afternoon as it’s been a while since I’ve had a golf course to call home. For those of us who wish to spend our lives on the fairways, the sauce is almost ready!
