We have also removed the “nautical” ropes that separate the range from the cart path. We’ll be installing natural vegetation in this area. Eventually, as it matures, it will become a beautiful natural barrier between the range and the road. In addition to the removal of the posts and ropes, we’ve removed the “starters building” whose time had come to disappear. This is clearly a case of addition through subtraction and, while we are restoring the George Cobb / John LaFoy classic, many additional ancillary elements will not ‘make the cut’ with the new Cat Island Club.
I love sharing great news. For instance, our membership continues to grow each week. We also enrolled a new Lifetime Founding Member this week, getting us closer to our final goal for that category. Remember, this category is limited and if you are interested in picking up one of the final Lifetime Founding Memberships, please give me a call. Our Full Family Golf Membership also increased this week with members taking advantage of the financing option this time of year. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more information on membership and the 0% finance option that is currently available. Remember, you DO NOT have to be a resident of Cat Island to join the club. We are Beaufort’s newest private club, and we have members from all around Beaufort County and all over the country! Can’t wait for the Member/Guest Championship to see all the players from around the country competing.
I expect our golf shop counter to be delivered next week as it makes it way from Indianapolis. This is the hub of the golf shop where players will check-in and gain all the daily information from our staff. The golf shop counter is one of the key elements that we’re waiting on to complete the golf shop renovations. We are in need of two more crucial pieces; once delivered and installed, we’ll be able to host our golf shop opening and holiday sale. I’ll be certain to communicate that timetable as it becomes clear.
Our new “Carriage House” is being fitted with lanterns adjacent to each door. The doors are expected to be delivered and installed within the next few weeks. I expect this building to “mirror” the look of the clubhouse as members arrive at the bag drop and gather in the cart staging area.
Now that the practice range is open, it warms my heart to see our youngest members out there hitting balls and falling in love with the game. That said, parents and grandparents, PLEASE supervise your children and warn them that getting hit with a golf club can change everything. I saw a close call just the other evening and my warm heart nearly skipped a beat. Please, do not allow young children to come to the range without adult supervision. It is a great practice facility, but is most certainly not a playground. I need your help to make sure that we can avert a potential tragedy.
As a reminder, the range is open Tuesday through Sunday from 9:00 AM until dusk. This amenity is for members of the club only, both Golf and Social at this time. Members can simply park at the clubhouse and walk to the tee. Balls are staged in the apple crates for easy access.
Don’t forget our events this weekend. We are hosting Happy Hour prices tonight with live entertainment featuring Cat Island’s own, Mark Turner. As the weather is expected to be unseasonably warmer this weekend and next, make plans to have lunch at the Cabana Bar on Saturday and Stephanie is making a delicious Bacon, Egg, and Cheeseburger on Sunday. You won’t want to miss her famous shrimp gumbo either!
On Sunday, December 18th, we’ll be hosting the Beaufort Junior Golf Association on our range. We’ll have guest golf professionals and instructors on the range to help develop these young players and also provide equipment to those who need it. After the clinic, we’ll be hosting a holiday Bonfire for all members and friends of Cat Island Club. We’ll have drink specials and hot chocolate for the entire family and, of course, s’mores for the fire. What better way to spend the week before Christmas! So, another week is in the books and this week’s events will be precious memories in the future. Just think, this time next year, we’ll be thinking back to all of the steps necessary to re-build Cat Island Club.
