The Cat Island Weekly Update: December 9th

Dec 9, 2022 | Weekly Update

Dear Cat Island Club Friends,

Since Resort Development Partners purchased Cat Island Club back in June, we’ve had quite a few milestones along the way. Restoring this golf course is quite a task unto itself and when you throw in changes to the clubhouse and other amenities that we’ve opened to date, you can start to see that this is not for the weak of heart. Now that we’re in December the milestones are fewer but much more significant as we get closer and closer to reopening this club.

One of our key moments early on came in the creation the Cat Island Club logo, The Resurrection Fern!  The story could not have fit better and I for one, love the simple logo that identifies Cat Island Club.  We started with long sleeve tee shirts this summer and witnessed them all around town and even across the ocean!  But reproducing the logo and selecting merchandise that advances the brand of Cat Island Club is a much bigger issue that takes a significant amount of time, energy, and expertise.

I met with some of the top vendors in the industry and we reviewed their products for the season and next year.  Then there was some painstaking approval processes of the logo and colors to ensure our Cat Island Club merchandise is truly something special.  In addition to the merchandise, we began working on the golf shop.  Every detail was discussed and planned out.  The last pieces of the puzzle are scheduled for next week which will allow us to reach our goal of opening our golf shop and selling Cat Island Club logo merchandise before the Christmas holiday.

I’m not quite ready to announce the date for the Members Only Holiday Wine and Cheese Sale, but tentatively hold next Saturday open for a quick visit to the club for such an occasion.  There are a few elements that still need to fall in place next week in order to pull this off, but I will keep all members abreast of the plans on our Clubster App as the plans come together.

If you’ve left some room on your shopping list, we’ll have some great shirts and layered outwear pieces from Johnnie O, Straight Down, Scales, Donald Ross and IBKUL for ladies.  We also have headwear with our Cat Island Club leather patches, giftware, men’s accessories and of course Titleist equipment and golf bags.  If you are looking for a special gift for a golfer on your list, you may want to consider a Scotty Cameron putter or a Titleist Legend Member’s Golf Bag.  We also have Foot Joy shoes and gloves in stock, along with Titleist golf balls, which always make a great stocking stuffer.

Another very special gift idea is always a Cat Island Club Membership.  Remember, during December, we are offering a special financing option for Full Family Golf Memberships.  Social Memberships are also growing each week as we get closer and closer to opening the clubhouse.  Bear in mind, you don’t have to be a Cat Island resident to join Cat Island Club.  Please feel free to reach out to me to gain a complete understanding of our membership offering.

Next Sunday, December 18th, we will be hosting an open house at the club starting at 3:00 PM.  We are starting that day with a junior golf clinic on the range for the Beaufort County Junior Golf Association from 2:00 until 3:30. We will be introducing children ages 5 to 12 to this wonderful game.  After the junior clinic and club tours, we’re inviting everyone to stay for a bonfire where we’ll have drink specials, campfire food, music and of course smores.  Everyone is welcome to join in the bonfire party—members and non-members alike. Plus, this close to the holiday, you just never know who may show up!

As we all know, December is a month that many businesses slow down and rest.  Fortunately, Cat Island Club is not one of those businesses.  In case you missed it last week, Cat Island Club member, Mark Turner performed at the Cabana Bar to rave reviews.  He’ll be back this Friday the 16th at the Cabana Bar playing his guitar and entertaining everyone.  We’ll be celebrating with Happy Hour pricing on Thursday night while Mark lights up the night.

This past week, Ben and his team have added more native grasses to the landscaping plans for the clubhouse and range tee.  We’ve taken delivery on our outdoor furniture for the clubhouse deck as well.  Our crew has taken a short break as we await delivery of several items that will get us closer to opening the clubhouse.

The golf course is also on the list of plans for next week.  Ben and his crew will be aerifying greens and tees for the first time.  The aerification process helps break up any soil compaction and also gets air, water, and nutrients into the soil.  Everyone who has ever played golf has had to deal with aerification.  At the stage that our club is currently in, I’m thrilled to see this process as again, it’s one step closer and another milestone.

So, this coming week, has some significant achievements ahead. While the Christmas season is in full swing, please make plans to spend some time with us at the club.  You won’t have to battle long lines while shopping and you are guaranteed to get a few items with the Cat Island Club logo, which is indeed something unique.  I wish you all a joyous Holiday Season!

With warmest regards,
Tim Mervosh
General Manager
