The Cat Island Weekly Update: February 9th

Feb 9, 2024 | Weekly Update

Dear Cat Island Club Friends,

We have some exciting news to share this week. We’ve hired a new Executive Chef at Cat Island Club; Chef Jacob Barlow will be joining our amazing team very soon. Chef Jacob has been in the culinary industry for nearly 20 years and comes to Cat Island Club by way of Jekyll Island Club. Jacob was born on a farm in Georgia and developed his love for cooking with his mom on the farm. As his passion grew, he attended and received his degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. While Jacob has been trained as a classical French Chef, he loves to run the gamut of cooking a wide variety of dishes and styles.

Your tastebuds can travel from the south of France to the Lowcountry classics. Along with Jekyll Island Club, his background touches several bases including Berkeley Hall Club in Bluffton and The Driftwood Eatery on Hilton Head Island. His history also includes several impressive awards; he was a medal winner in the Hilton Head Wing Fest competition (in his first attempt) and the overall winner of the Savannah Burger Week event in 2015. Those two items are immensely popular on our CIC menu already, so we can’t wait to have Chef Jacob put his touches on those favorites. We’re so pleased to welcome Jacob, his wife Megan and their two young children to the Cat Island Club Family. We’ll be announcing a special “meet and greet” soon on our Clubster app.

For anyone out there who wishes to enjoy the ambiance, exceptional service levels, and of course delicious food, we’ll be hosting our spring “Open House Week” starting on March 19th and through Sunday Brunch on March 24th. During “Open House Week” we will welcome a limited number of potential members access to dining and golf at Cat Island Club. Mark your calendars now and feel free to reach out to me anytime for more information if you just can’t wait until the next Friday night’s update!

This coming week at Cat Island Club our membership will be enjoying the Super Bowl shuffle as members and their guests compete in the re-designed par 54 CIC Par 3 course. Wear your NFL gear and support your favorite teams. The Clubhouse Grill bar will be open until 5 pm this Sunday as your “Pre-Super Bowl Party” stop. We will be offering a limited-themed menu from 2 pm – 5 pm! Later this week, we’ll celebrate lovers on Valentine’s Day with a special fun golf event during the day and a family Valentine’s Day night in the dining room. We will be hosting our first BINGO night; you won’t want to miss it!

Friday is Guest Day! We encourage our members to invite a guest for golf for a cart fee only. We’ll even buy the first round of beers at lunch for the members and guests when you stop in for lunch on Friday the 16th! On February 17th, our Head Golf Professional, Keith Maher, will be hosting our Ladies Golf 2024 meeting and orientation at 2:00 pm in the Banquet Room. Keith will be introducing the plans for our season of ladies 18- and 9-hole groups. He’ll also be scheduling our Ladies Clinics and fun events for all ladies with your feedback that day. If you are a member who’s looking to play in our weekly events, this meeting is for you. If you’re a member who wants to learn more about our ladies’ golf programs, this meeting is for you as well. If you are a non-member and interested in ladies golf and possibly joining Cat Island Club one day soon, you too are welcome to attend this informative session. Just call the golf shop at 843-524-2000 ext. 101 to register and for more information.

Later that same day, Keith and our PGA Assistant Professional, Jeff Abrams, will be introducing our 2024 Junior Golf plans starting at 3:00 pm. Like the Ladies, our juniors will have specific play days and clinics, as well as participation in the PGA Junior League. Our Cat Island Club team will play against junior teams from around the area in some friendly competition. Again, all members with juniors are encouraged to attend this informative Q&A and if you are a parent interested in having your junior involved with our program, you are welcome to come to the Club that day and gain some valuable information for your junior player. Again, please call the golf shop at 843-524-2000 ext. 101 to register for the Junior Golf Orientation meeting on February 17th starting at 3:00 PM.

On Sunday, February 25th we will be hosting a Wine 101 for all wine lovers. Dylan with Southern Glazer’s will be here showcasing some wines from their portfolio while providing some wine education. There is more information available for members on Clubster!

Prime Rib night will be on Thursday the 29th of this month. We’ll have Prime Rib and our Pot of Gold drawing that night so make your reservations soon. The pot is up to $450 this week, if no one wins before the 29th the pot will be at $550! I’m betting Chef Jacob will want to flex his muscles a little for his first Prime Rib night!
