The Cat Island Weekly Update: July 14th

Jul 14, 2023 | Weekly Update

Dear Cat Island Club Friends,

Over the last few weeks, I’ve heard the same question more than a few times; “When is the clubhouse going to open?” Last week, I referenced the work that had been done, the equipment that had been delivered and the next steps to get us to a point that we can open. While the fog around the definitive answer is lifting, it’s still too early to make a call on the exact day. There are only one elements that remains that is critical to the opening of the clubhouse for lunch, dinner, and bar service. One piece of custom equipment that we had ordered did not fit the space properly and therefore is having to be remade. While we are at the top of the manufacturers list to get this completed, it’s still a custom piece that has to be produced and shipped. Once we know that date of that delivery, and we expect that to be soon, we can make an announcement as to the date for the soft opening.

As we did with the golf course, we’ll have a soft opening in the clubhouse. Initially, this will mean limited services on limited days. That said, we expect it to ramp up quickly as the staff, menu and plans come together. Speaking of menus, our Executive Chef, Lucas Cheek, has prepared a menu for the clubhouse that will certainly be worth the wait and worthy of our club. It includes things like a Summer Squash Salad from local farms and, of course, Carolina Shrimp and Mojo Pork Flautas. His sandwich menu has a Peach Grilled Cheese, Tomato Burrata Sandwich, Shrimp Po Boy. It goes without saying that Chef Lucas’s famous Smash Burgers, which are already a member favorite at the Cabana, have made the cut! Dinner items include Roasted Chicken, Grilled Cobia, a local Ole Timey New York Strip steak, Summer Gnocchi, and several other delicious items that will surely delight our diners and meet all dietary needs and preferences.

Speaking of great food, we had an outstanding golf event this week—the One Day, Member/ Guest. Hosting nearly fifty players, members and their invited guests enjoyed a warmer than usual day on a spectacular golf course with spirted competition. James Nethery and Cory Greak took top honors in the Gross Division with a better ball 67; Greg Myers and his guest, Rob Alix, shot net 59 to take top honors in the Net Division. Patrick Mitchell took two of the four closest to the hole prizes, while everyone had a blast in spite of the warm afternoon. The food after the event was light and delicious—local raw oysters, ahi tuna tartare, Skirt Steak tacos and Ole Timey beef sliders were big hits after a long balmy day on the links.

On the courts we are hosting a Pickleball 101 clinic to learn and improve your fundamentals of the sport on July 25th, plus a Pickleball Round Robin event on the 27th of the month. For the tennis crowd, a tennis social on the 29th is already filling up, so please contact me or Jill Wilson soon to register for these events. The details for all of the Pickleball and Tennis events will be listed on Clubster. Our Tennis Director, Jill Wilson, is a certified Pickleball and Tennis instructor. So, if you want to learn, improve, and enjoy racquet sports, Jill is a big part of the solution that you desire.

For anyone out there wanting to learn more about membership, please do one of two things. Firstly, call me to set up a time for a tour of the club and facilities. Our spectacular lagoon pool is the perfect place to spend your staycation this summer. The Cabana Bar and Grill will sooth your soul with a light fare, plenty of adult libations and, of course, fun drinks for the kids. The golf course is also a beautiful journey through the natural beauty of the Lowcountry. The lush fairways, spectacular views and pristine conditions are a terrific way to spend a few hours. Soon the clubhouse will be the center of activity for Cat Island Club. Lunches, dinners, happy hours, and Brunches will have the clubhouse filled with happy faces and full bellies. Secondly, if you don’t believe me, reach out to any one of our current Cat Island Club members. I’m confident that they too will share their thoughts on what they have enjoyed thus far and the plans for their future at this club. I am so pleased to know that our members are also our best ambassadors, which makes for a special place that we call Cat Island Club. I do hope that you will consider joining this family. Not only will you love the club, but the club will also love you back!

With warmest regards,
Tim Mervosh
General Manager
