The pool opens at 11:00 AM each day and closes at 8:00 PM each night with the exception on Fridays and Saturdays when we plan on closing at 9:00 PM. Food and beverage service will be available Wednesdays through Sundays.
While that news is worthy of a fireworks display, the big news for the week is the update from the golf course construction team. If you have had a chance to drive by, you will see that we have started the preparation work on the green surfaces. This process is to remove a top layer of soil that may contain contaminants of previous growth. The next step is to add a light layer of mix to allow our team to build the final contours that will aid in drainage and make for fun and exciting putting surfaces. The greens will then be fumigated to ensure all the base is prepared for the sprigging of Paspalum grass. Our team is also cutting the fairways and will be spraying out the weeds soon. We will continue to work on smoothing the fairways by aerifying and vert-cutting that will help the Bermuda grass spread. We have a world class team on site daily to work with Ben McNair, Golf Course Superintendent and Steve Cohoon, RDP Corporate Agronomist and are optimistic each day. Late yesterday, we saw water spraying the greens and fairways as the system was energized.
In the coming weeks, we’ll continue to work on the greens and reshaping bunkers. We are also removing some bunkers that are no longer in play for today’s players and equipment. We’ll be adding other features around the course to ensure playability for golfers of all skill levels. You’ll also see more work on the fairways and rough as our team continues to grow and layer on additional tasks.
With the golf course well underway in the restoration project, the introduction of food and beverage at the pool and the incredible response that we have had to membership thus far, the value of being a member of Cat Island increases. So, now is the best time to join the new Cat Island Club! The dust in the air is a welcomed site and as it settles, our club will continue to grow. Please feel free to tell your friends, neighbors, and co-workers about the plans for Cat Island as we want to grow the club with members just like you!
I hope that you all have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July weekend. As always, stop by the clubhouse to check on the progress for yourself. While we build the golf course, we’re also building relationships.
