The Cat Island Weekly Update: June 2nd

Jun 2, 2023 | Weekly Update

Dear Cat Island Club Friends,

It was one year ago to the day that we closed on this property. I had a “desk” set up in what was to become our golf shop and started a new chapter for Cat Island Club. We enrolled over one hundred members during that very first month in 2022 and that first wave of members helped us launch into our current orbit one year later. We’ve had so many great memories, lessons learned, heartaches and celebrations along the way. Most importantly, we’ve increased our membership to the current level that has solidified our base for growth into the future and it continues to grow!

Last week, we celebrated our greatest achievement to date, the Grand Opening of the golf course! Last Friday I reported on the Ribbon Cutting ceremony with the Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce; but like most celebrations, ours went on for a few days. We also had a magnificent tribute to our nation’s treasured heroes as we raised the flags to honor them with the help of some of our friends. I cannot thank the United States Marines enough who participated in our ceremony to raise the flags. Our musicians stirred our emotions and patriotic fires until the final tribute; Lt. Colonel Chris Brandt led four F-35’s over Cat Island Club in a missing man formation to give us a memory that we will NEVER forget. We are so honored to be a part of this community and home to so many members who will enjoy this Cat Island Club lifestyle for many years to come.

Monday was our inaugural Memorial Day picnic at the pool. We had a tremendous group of members and their guests enjoying the band, sunshine and, of course, Chef Lucas’ Memorial Day menu. Plus, no picnic would be complete without a watermelon eating contest. Congratulations to our winners and to all of the members who made this picnic so successful. We certainly had a ball hosting!

Last week’s Patriot Golf Day was postponed due to the weather and rescheduled for tomorrow. We’re helping raise donations for the Palmetto Chapter of Folds of Honor and extending a special Patriot Golf Day greens fee for all members’ guests to help with the cause. If you would like to donate to the Folds of Honor and are not playing golf tomorrow at Cat Island Club, you can simply stop by the golf shop and drop off your cash or check donation.

We were also so overwhelmed by the Marines that were on site last week, and in the skies above us, that we’ve introduced a new membership level for all Active-Duty military personnel. We at RDP recognize the sacrifices that you and your families make for the protection of our freedom, and we want to help you relax and enjoy your downtime while in Beaufort. Please send me an email or call my office at 843-524-2000 ext. 103 for additional information about this Active-Duty military membership offer.

Now that we’ve officially opened the golf course, our members can play Tuesday through Sunday. The club is currently closed on Mondays. The golf shop is open from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM and the practice range shares those same hours. The pool is open seven days a week and the Cabana Bar and Grille are currently open for lunch and dinner on the weekends. We also host Happy Hours and dinner service on Thursdays and Fridays.

So, what’s next on our radar? The clubhouse opening of course!  We have our kitchen equipment scheduled to arrive later this month. We’re expecting state-of-the-art kitchen equipment, bar equipment and everything else to serve our members lunch and dinners. Eventually, we’ll be your favorite place for Sunday brunch and all family and social events. It will take approximately 10 days to install the kitchen equipment, then we’ll have a period of time for a soft opening for the clubhouse dining service until we have; what else—Another Grand Opening! The last one will be hard to beat but the clubhouse grand opening will also be one to remember. More details about that event in the coming weeks.

And for anyone out there looking to improve their golf games, we have one of the top teachers in the country coming to Cat Island Club on June 16th and 17th. Erika Larkin will be on-site to conduct a number of clinics and lessons for anyone wishing to improve. Isn’t that everyone? Erika is featured in Golf Digest Magazine often and is the number one teacher in the state of Virginia since 2014. For more information about these clinics, please send me an email or call my office. We’re so excited to have Erika at Cat Island Club later this month.

So, as we prepare for the next celebration at Cat Island Club, we hope that you will be able to join us as a member or at least a guest of one of our members. If anyone is wondering what Cat Island Club’s membership is all about, just look at the smiling faces of our current members! They are a very welcoming group and the best ambassadors. We can’t wait for you to join our Cat Island Club family!

With warmest regards,
Tim Mervosh
General Manager
