Before we get into our upcoming events, I want to share the great news with everyone that we have hired our new Executive Chef, Merritt Fay! Merritt is coming to CIC via Callawassie Club in Okatie, SC where she serves as the Sous Chef. Before her stint on Callawassie, Merrit was the Chef at Red Fish on Hilton Head Island. Her history also included Sea Pines Resort and Marker 32. We’re so pleased and proud to welcome Merrit to our team at Cat Island Club where I’m confident that she will move the needle for member’s culinary experiences. Merritt will begin her new role with CIC no later than June 16th. We will be sending out a “save the date” for a special “meet the team” event in our dining room early July. Alex Young, our Sommelier and F&B Director, will be introducing our new F&B team along with Merritt to our membership once the dust settles and everyone starts to settle into their roles. Alex will also be hosting his second Wine Education class on Wednesday, June 25th in the ballroom. Reservations open exclusively to Wine Club members through June 15th before it opens to our remaining club membership.
Next week, we are honored to host the Carolinas Golf Association with the 2025 Junior Match Play Championship for both boys and girls. Match play is the truest form of the game and by Thursday next week, we’ll be rewarding two very talented young players with their Championship Medals. If you wish to see some great future golf stars, stop by Cat Island Club next week to check in on the action.
While these juniors will be competing for the Medal, our CIC junior members are encouraged to participate in our weekly Junior Clinics each Wednesday morning hosted by our Head Golf Professional, Keith Maher. These clinics begin at 8:30 each Wednesday morning during the summer and the juniors will learn all aspects of the game. Also, they will play the course to prepare them for the next level of golf on Thursdays. If that level is higher competition for some or just enjoying this great game with family and friends, we all will enjoy it more when we play better. Speaking of fun and some light competition, we didn’t forget our adults. We are hosting a “One Day Summer Member/Guest” on Saturday, June 21st. There’s a stag party on Friday night after a practice round with the competition taking place on Saturday. Lots of fun, food, and beverages with some golf thrown in to ensure the memories last a lifetime!
