Let’s define golf balls in the air at Cat Island Club first. I’ve said all along, we will make every possible attempt to conduct a soft opening during the month of April. A soft opening is defined as limited times and days but golf, nonetheless. The golf course is taking shape as Ben and his team continue to lower green heights and, this week, they have established mowing lines to define fairways from rough.
Over the next few weeks, bunkers will be cleaned up and sod and sprigs will continue to be installed. With adequate heat and water, those areas will be playable soon. Again, a soft opening is not a grand opening of the golf course. The Grand Opening is planned for Memorial Day weekend. Soft opening will be more like sleeping on an air mattress while waiting for your furniture to arrive. You’ll be at home without all of the comforts of home, but the anticipation will carry us through!
The clubhouse will be on the same timeline. The turn room will be the only food option initially as we begin the process of moving food and beverage operations from the Cabana Bar to the clubhouse. But, as days turn to weeks and we get into May and closer to Memorial Day, the offerings will increase at the clubhouse. Our indoor dining room furniture has arrived and is in place. We’re still waiting on kitchen equipment to arrive. In the time between now and then, we’ve removed all of the old kitchen equipment to make room for new and we’re prepping the kitchen to be state of the art.
We have not made a final decision on our Executive Chef to date. We have the field narrowed to a few final candidates and soon, we’ll be able to announce our newest teammate. Our new Head Golf Professional, Keith Maher, is eager to get to town and start planning and working our golf operations in time for the opening.
If you are looking for some new spring fashions, stop by the golf shop as spring merchandise continues to arrive this time of year. We want you to be sporting the new Cat Island Club logo all around town and when you are on your spring break vacation. Remember to send me photos of our logo during your travels.
With warmest regards,
Tim Mervosh
