The Cat Island Weekly Update: March 8th

Mar 8, 2024 | Weekly Update

Dear Cat Island Club Friends,

As the temperatures warm up, it’s not just the cars that are green around here. The Bermuda fairways are turning green right before our eyes. As the ground temperatures get near the 60-degree mark, the Bermuda grass comes out of its dormant state, turns green and starts to grow. While we’ve had quite a few warm days, the nighttime temperatures are the best indicator of ground temperatures and beautiful fairways. We love seeing those beautiful green hues, but remember some of that is designed to grow into rough and we all know that is to be avoided during play—although that’s another topic for another day.

With spring’s arrival, our members know that our golf course is not overly crowded making tee times easy to come by as a member. However, as the club continues to evolve and membership levels continue to increase, there will come a day when tee times will become more important. That said, always remember, we will cap our golf access membership levels to ensure that the membership experience remains exceptional. As a member of our club, you will never pay an assessment for capital expenditures or shortfalls. You “will” have the opportunity to play golf not only at Cat Island Club, but any of the RDP clubs around the country.

As the weather continues to warm, it won’t be long before members will be enjoying the pool complex again. Our fabulous lagoon pool and Cabana Bar & Grill area will be filled with members enjoying the summer with lunch fresh off the grill, a cold beverage, live music and of course plenty of Carolina sunshine. We’ll officially kick off the season over the Memorial Day weekend with our annual cookout and Patriot Golf Weekend. The unofficial opening of the pool will be in April as we prepare for a “soft opening” at the Cabana Bar & Grill in early May.

Next Wednesday is St. Patrick’s BINGO on family night in the dining room. We had such a blast over Valentine’s Day, we are going for a “do-over” for everyone by popular demand. Next Thursday is our special “Lunch with the GM” day. Please feel free to email me at tmervosh@resortdevpartners.com or reservations@catislandclub.com to attend the GM luncheon. I’m looking forward to seeing many of you as we share ideas and information about our favorite place to be—Cat Island Club!

Next week we are also hosting friends from Palmetto Club in Aiken and The Cliff’s from the Upstate for our inaugural Rocker Invitational. The three teams will be competing in three separate events during the year for the ultimate prize—a beautiful rocking chair that I expect to be rocking in on the Oak Patio. While this event is a true invitational, we are planning additional interclub matches with other clubs in the area and also in the RDP portfolio. Look for that information in upcoming updates.

Weather permitting, our Head Professional, Keith Maher will be hosting our ladies’ Sips and Chips clinic on the range at 3:00 PM tomorrow. Along with the golf clinic, Chef Jacob will be serving Chips, homemade Salsa and homemade Guacamole! There is still some room in the clinic and plenty of Wine and Margaritas to enjoy. Then on Friday the 22nd, we’ll turn the golf course into a Par 3 venue for our (first of season) Nine and Dine couple’s event. This will be an ultra-fun evening for nine holes with a delicious dinner and cocktails after play. Sign up on Clubster or by calling the golf shop today.

One last note, our Easter Brunch is on the verge of SOLD OUT. There are a few spots left today and we’ll have a waiting list.  Please note, the Oak Patio “may” allow us to open up more availability if the weather cooperates, so I encourage you to at least get on the waiting list and keep your fingers crossed for a warm and dry Easter Sunday.

I hope to see many of you at the GM luncheon next week as our club blooms into the spring! Be well and stay safe friends.

With warmest regards,
Tim Mervosh
General Manager
