This weekend all of our pools will be open for swimming and sunbathing and food and beverage service will begin next weekend. Members, please note, while you are at the pool this week, you can call the clubhouse and we’ll deliver lunch and /or beverages to you before the Cabana Bar officially opens next weekend. For those of you who are thinking about membership and enjoy sitting around the pool sipping on an adult beverage of two, I know just the place.
Last night we hosted our inaugural Thursday night Grass Masters. This is a great way to spend an evening with a quick nine holes to satisfy your fix for golf and your competitive juices all at the same time. Our members invited their guests to compete last night and for those of you not familiar with the golf course at CIC, the winds do blow in the afternoon and the greens are firm. The firmness of the putting surfaces is due to the age of the greens. Our greens were planted only 18 months ago, and greens take more that a few years to build up a layer of thatch beneath the actual putting surface, which creates that “softer” gentler approach. Until then, you have to hit quality shots to score well. But don’t let that be an excuse, so does everyone else!
As I mentioned last week, our golf course team continues to tackle projects along with their daily tasks and it’s really impacting the overall look and feel for the players. Most of these improvements are purely aesthetics to your eye while playing. However, some players allow these visions of water and such to work into their game plan and therefore alter their plans on how to approach certain holes and shots. Always remember, the game is played between your ears first and foremost. Focus on your target!
I spent a sleepless night recently thinking about, what else—the game of golf! I had a new member join the club earlier that same day who told me that he rarely plays the game, but his young son has a passion for the game, and he wanted him to play and compete with other junior players and grow up around the game. I thought about how lucky that young man is to have parents who want their child growing up around the greatest game in the world. Then it hit me, my dad did the same thing for me! Looking back on a lifetime of golf at various levels, how fortunate I am to have golf in my life. It’s the WHY in what we do at Cat Island Club. I’ve preached over the years; we want you to use this club the way YOU want to use it. Relaxing on the patio enjoying dinner with friends and / or hitting balls on the range and chasing the most elusive goals of hitting a perfect shot on the golf course. And then hoping and planning for another one! What a wonderful game that we play! We get to play this great sport with people we enjoy on a property that will take your breath away with stunning views of the Lowcountry. That’s what golf at Cat Island Club is all about. Please don’t hesitate to call me at the club to set up a time to take a tour of this private club. I assure you; you won’t be disappointed.
With warmest regards,
